The district understands that many of you continue to struggle with which learning model, on-campus or remote, is best for your children. Our teachers are working hard to develop meaningful lessons for our students in both platforms. The challenge of teaching in two instructional models is real. The simple truth is that there is not enough time in the day for our teachers to adequately prepare to teach in both settings.

The district has devised a plan to help our faculty regain some time to focus on planing and instruction. Due to the amount of banked operational minutes we need to accumulate throughout the school year, adjustments were made to the number of teacher preparation days.

The MISD Board of Trustees has approved a revised calendar. This calendar will provide a total of seven additional preparation days to allow teachers more time to develop lessons for on-campus and remote learners. Students will not attend classes on these days.

The additional work days are scheduled for:

  • November 23, 24
  • January 29
  • March 5
  • April 1, 23
  • May 17

These days appear on the the calendar as preparation/bad-weather days. Should we experience weather events that result in a school closure, it may be necessary to reclaim one or more of these days as make-up days.
