The McGregor Independent School District Board of Trustees, at its March 21, 2017 meeting, named Mr. James Lenamon as finalist for superintendent. By law, the Board must now wait 21 days before voting to hire Mr. Lenamon, who is slated to replace retiring Superintendent Kevin Houchin.

The Board has followed a lengthy process in determining the finalist. In November, the Board hired Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) Executive Search Services to direct the search. TASB consultants met with staff and community groups on Monday, January 9th to discuss desired characteristics of the new superintendent. The profile developed from these meetings was the yardstick used by the Board and consultants in evaluating the applicants for the position.

The Board selected six applicants for initial interviews. Three applicants were invited back for a second interview. The Board is scheduled to vote to offer a contract to Mr. Lenamon at its Regular Board Meeting on April 13, 2017.

“The hiring of the superintendent is the most important action a school board takes,” said Dr. Frank Graves, MISD Board President. The McGregor Independent School District Board of Trustees did not take the search process lightly and worked diligently with TASB consultants to ensure the process was thorough and fair as we sought to hire the best candidate.”

“The selection of James Lenamon as the lone finalist for the McGregor Independent School District is a decision that is based on the current and future needs of the district,” according to President Graves. “Mr. Lenamon’s loyalty to the district and the community is without question, and now we will tap into his leadership skills to lead our district. The board is confident that Mr. Lenamon will continue the district’s success and strive to meet our goal of creating a culture of excellence.”

James Lenamon has served as Assistant Superintendent in McGregor ISD since 2007; he oversees a multitude of operations for MISD, a district of 1,475 students. “I would like to thank the Board of Trustees for their vote of confidence. I am humbled by the awesome responsibility that comes with this position and I am committed to working with our students, staff, and community to take our schools to the next level,” said Mr. Lenamon.
